100 Kids Per Year Die from Guns in Homes in US
..yet another tragic loss of life. Another young life to never grow up here in the US. No “good guys with guns” story here. No “good thing someone had to gun to take care of that terrorist.” Nothing here but sorrow. Nothing here but more sad evidence of a fear-based culture and right wing industries feeding myths about how more guns mean a safer country.
The real, actual death toll here in the US from the prevalence of guns far outweighs the reality of the mythic “good guy with a gun” macho fantasy. And this story only dwells on this latest tragedy and the mentions the 100 kids per year. It doesn’t even address the death toll of adults in their own homes, victims of domestic violence, extended family turmoil, accidental shootings, etc.
BTW, this opinion comes from someone who knows firsthand about this very topic. At age 12 I had a fully loaded .22 long rifle pointed at my head in anger by a younger family member. I could have been cut short at 12, nothing but just another statistic and tombstone, just as this latest little boy will be.
